Now in MP3: The Rhythm Kings, 1975

I recently got hold of a CD that an old friend burned for me of my first big-time band, the Rhythm Kings (l to r: Lazy Henry, Chris "Bloomfield Slim" Patarini, John Hogue, Kurt "Junior Smoke" Steinle, me, Gene "Dr. Feelgood" Hudak), playing live in State College, PA in 1975, and it's so good, I decided to share it with you all for free in mp3. Go here and download the songs.

After listening to the voice I had in 1975, I've booked a plane ticket to Mississippi. There's a guy I have to meet at the crossroads to complete a deal we've been discussing to give me this voice back for the next ten years.

But all that aside, listen to the Kings! What a band that was.

Thanks to Duane Irate Jones for burning his tape to CD so we could make these recordings available to you.

GREAT! Unnnn believable. The horns! OMG!

Lazy Henry... wow.

Fingers de Grooove - very tasty

We did a lot of gigs in State College. Where was this one? The Brewery?

This tape shows we can all be very proud of the years spent with the Rhythm Kings.

Not sure where this gig was, Roger. My guess is that it was at the Scorpion, though.

Ahhh. The Scorp. Followed by a fry orgie at the NCD til the wee hours no doubt.

Simply amazing considering the equipment used then would be considered, at the least, old fashioned by today's standards. Except for some tape saturation at a few points it's held up very well.

The energy of the rhythm section, the power of the horn arrangements. What can I say? A well oiled machine being run by a consumate showman and performer.

Love the Scorpion, Love the Fox. I was just in State College for my daughters graduation (at least one of us made it!). The Brewery is still there, but total pit. The My Oh My is now a good club, and I can't figure out which building the Scorpion was in - I think I know, but the front door is missing!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for "The Rhythm Kings 1975" MP3! The memory of those days flood into my being with the sound of the music. The entire group was cookin and your young voice filled with soul. It took me awhile to get the MP3 figured out and a CD burned, but it all came together last night. Smile. I just wanted to say thanks again to you and to Duane I. Jones. (I hope that he has additional recordings that he will share.) I'm burning a CD for my brother, "Lazy Henry". I hope he will enjoy the sounds and the good memories.
