Fred Chapellier, both of our bands, Jeff Ingersoll over at Bonedog Records and I are now hard at work on our new CD for DixieFrog Records, tentatively titled "Night Work." We've finished all the rhythm tracks and are now working on horn parts, final vocals, and overdubs including, we hope, cameo appearances from Mark Wenner, harp player of the Nighthawks, and Otis Clay. Here's an article from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and a youtube video feature about the new CD and recording sessions. There are a couple of good photos here from our gig at the Syria Mosque in Harmar Township when Fred was in Pittsburgh. And please stop by our new Billy Price/Fred Chapéllier myspace page.
I'm back in Pittsburgh now from my second trip to France of the summer. My first trip, along with BP Band keyboard player Jimmy Britton, was a five-day gig with Fred and his great band at the Jazz Club Lionel Hampton in the Meridién Hotel in Paris (photos here). In my second trip, I played seven gigs in nine days with Fred, his band, and Neal Black. Here are some photos from one of our gigs, at the Pop Art Café in Reims.
Meanwhile, great stuff keeps showing up on youtube that surprises and delights me. Here's a video of Billy Price & the Keystone Rhythm Band performing in 1985 at High on the Hog, the annual party and music festival on Libby Hill in Richmond, VA. The song, "I'm Ready," is one that I had completely forgotten about. If I'm not mistaken, I think I wrote it with Norman Nardini. And here I am accepting an award for Best R&B/Blues Band on TV in Pittsburgh in 1989, at the Pittsburgh Music Awards. 1989 was the same year, by the way, in which Billy Price & the KRB broke up; always best to go out when you're on top, I guess.
Speaking of the Nighthawks, Jimmy and I are again planning some end-of-the-year dates with the lads (see our schedule for full details). Here are some photos from our gig last year at the Fish Head Cantina for the Baltimore Blues Society.
Hope you enjoy all of this stuff. If you do, leave a comment for us!
