Advance reviews of Night Work

The official release date of our new CD with Fred Chapellier, Night Work (DixieFrog Records) is March 12. Fred sent me a review of the CD at Mac & Guitare at http://www.macdan.org/spip.php?article1883. My French isn't too good, but I can tell that the writer likes it!

Another advance review is in Jim White's blog at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette at http://community.post-gazette.com/blogs/bluenotes/archive/2009/01/13/sneak-preview-of-billy-price-s-new-cd-night-work.aspx.

Mr. Pollack,
30 year fan. I've read every thing I could about. So a man with Master's in Creative Writing, that works for (or use to) a great academic insitution (Carnegie Mellon) can't get a simple software program to translate French to English?????

James, that is a damn good point, which I will take as a challenge. I will run the review through a translator and post the translation as a comment here, sometime soon. Automated translations, as you know, can be pretty inaccurate and often unintentionally funny, but we'll give it a shot.

And yes, I still work for that great academic institution. Thanks!

Billy

Here's a translation of the French review mentioned in the post, courtesy of Google Translate:

You asked the big sound? Do not move!

This album will certainly be the collector of the year 2009 "in fact the close collaboration between these two artists is a real bomb! ça groove from top to bottom and we see that the various collaborations with Fred Chapellier Blues tenors like Tom Principato and Bill Price helped to develop his guitar playing, more finesse, exploitation of new sounds while retaining his inimitable style.

An angel is on the path of the most beautiful voices Blues / Soul that the earth has never counted: Yes, Billy Price, what joy to hear throughout this album that beautiful voice that grabs you "stomach "and you instantly want to join the party.

A title like "Do not Let My Baby Ride" is not random, we slip it in a style close to the best titles style "Motown" with brass support coming raids punctuate choral dizzy, to the wonder majesté Billy Price!

The brand registered in the U.S. and it feels! It is a lively, vibrant, charming .... And the guitar in?

Fred is happy, it plays, it explodes, it radiates, what ... ? On coming back and fortunately there are 13 tracks for us to fill this beautiful energy deployed to all floors.

What is most complicated in the production is certainly happen to create diversity, not to copy or even, Nightwork it is a beautiful story of 13 tables that allow the listener will navigate in a summary of a broad and visionary culture.

A masterful mix is also key to this success, the immense talent of all musicians and choirs is perfectly served the delicacy of interpretation of all the artists is from one end to another the album. This album really want to party, after practicing on 5 successive listenings some titles I have not tired of me, a strange impression to listen to rediscover each title, which is quite rare these days when most Public albums are completely sanitized, the creativity here is resumed, the chemistry between Fred & Billy works out to feel the point of complicity between the two artists.

It is the key focal point of all creation, whether in music or painting, an artist can grow only by listening and sharing with his contemporaries and in this case it even affects magic.

"Under The Influence," for example, revisits the style "West Coast" of the mid-80 while wearing a very personal approach.

In the same vein "OV.Wright" is the title that marked me most because it symbolizes for me as the perfect focal point for the creation of this album with a rhythmic particularly interesting and all artists it up with the beautiful simplicity that is visible only in the largest.

On this title you can enjoy also a phenomenal bass playing.

As you can see, for Mac & Guitare will certainly Blues album of the year Although the word Blues is not really the term of this album that flirts happily with Soul, Jazz and other world without any lack of taste ...

So Fred & Billy, thank you boys to make us vibrate, to give us a taste of other critics who drives receiving a lot of album every month, we give little stars in your eyes when you talk about us This album, "Night Work" on the class at the same level as great standards that we have offered prestigious characters OTE Reding, Billy Paul and many others that the list is too long to publish!

March 12 strongly, that everyone can enjoy!

Pollock Billy,
If only BlueNotes write so well, he could.
Le "Werque de la Nuit" can only feel the whole in the sole.
