& Friends
DFGCD

This
new CD by French guitarist Fred Chapellier
features Billy Price singing "A
Nickel and a Nail."
Here
are some free mp3 files of Billy Price
and Fred Chapéllier live in
concert in Goussainville, France in
November, 2007 (Jimmy Britton, keyboards;
Pat Machenaud, drums; Abder Benachour,
bass):
Billy
Price's long-awaited first studio
recording since 1999, with 14 new
songs (13 original), featuring Billy
and the Billy Price Band. Here are
one-minute, lo-fi samples of all the
songs on the CD, in mp3 (all files
are 588 KB):
This
compilation CD includes two complete
recordings by Billy Price & the
Keystone Rhythm Band, from 1984 and
1988 respectively:
Live
This
CD captures Billy Price and the Keystone
Rhythm Band live at the Wax Museum
in Washington D.C. Featuring the blistering
rock/blues guitar of Glenn Pavone,
the band smokes through a hot set
of blues and soul before an enthusiastic
audience. The CD includes the first
release ever of a lost Otis Redding
song, Since You've Gone Again; Price's
version of I Can't Lose the Blues,
which was later covered by bluesman
Son Seals; and Price's lengthy workout
on Tyrone Davis's Turn Back the Hands
of Time.
The
last recording by Billy Price and
the Keystone Rhythm Band, this CD
contains original material written
by Price and his bandmates, including
Who You're Workin' For, Absolute Love,
Real Time, and I'm Gonna Win the War.
Recorded in Philadelphia at Studio
Four and produced by Phil Niccolo,
this CD adds a rock/pop veneer to
Price's traditional soul sound. Featured
soloists are Glenn Pavone on guitar
and Don Aliquo, Jr. on tenor sax.
Produced in Los Angeles by Jerry "Swamp
Dogg" Williams. In addition to the
title song, which Billy Price recorded
with Roy Buchanan in 1974 on Roy"s
"Livestock" LP, this CD includes eight
songs written especially for Billy
by Swamp Dogg. Here's more
information about the new CD.
Returning
to Jeree Records in New Brighton,
PA, where Billy Price made his first
recording with the Keystone Rhythm
Band ("Is It Over"), Price resurrects
the spirit and feel of the southern
soul music that came out of Memphis,
Muscle Shoals, and Nashville in the
1960s and 1970s. The CD includes background
vocals by Chicago veterans Dianne
Madison (currently singing with Aretha
Franklin), Theresa Davis (former member
of The Emotions), and Robin Robinson,
as well as a cameo appearance by Price's
friend and mentor Otis Clay on Clay's
"That's How It Is." The CD contains
16
great songs.
Billy
Price's first post-Keystone Rhythm
Band CD, Danger Zone is Price's tribute
to the pre-rock 'n roll rhythm and
blues sounds of the late 1940s and
early 1950s. This CD features interpretations
of songs originally recorded by artists
such as Bobby Bland, Charles Brown,
Big Joe Turner, and Little Willie
John, performed by the cream of Pittsburgh's
jazz/blues musicians, including Max
Leake (piano), H.B. Bennett (drums),
Nick Dialoiso (tenor sax), and Ralph
Guzzi (trumpet). Danger Zone also
includes three songs written by Percy
Mayfield, sometimes known as "The
Poet of the Blues."
